JOHN CARLOS 68 COLLECTIONS
RESPECT THE NAMES SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT.
Gestures and symbols have always been the best way to universally acknowledge and speak to people from around the world.
The raising of the hand with a clenched fist was nothing new during the Civil Rights Movement and became the powerful iconic gesture for the empowerment and unification of blacks throughout the United States. Alongside Australian sprinter and medalist Peter Norman who wore an Olympic Project For Human Rights badge in unity with John Carlos and Tommie Smith, Carlos and Smith raised their clenched fist after receiving their medals on the podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.
Today, John Carlos's intent is to re-brand the fist to align more with the original message of the silent protest which is to bring awareness to the struggles of not just blacks in America but the struggles of all individuals around the world. The John Carlos Collection showcases a variety of stylish t-shirts and hats branding his official logo which features his silhouette from the 1968 protest standing within a fist bearing the Olympic colors of blue, yellow, black, green and red. His signature eloquently finishes off this authentic and unique design.
